SAT EXAM IN GHANA

SAT exam, standing for Scholastic Aptitude Test, is a standardized test required along with high school transcripts for admission into most colleges and universities in USA, or Canada. It is administered by the College Board in many countries, including Ghana. It is intended to assess the readiness of students to get into college. The SAT tests students’ reading, writing, and numerical skills as required for a successful college studies.

COMPOSITION OF THE SAT EXAM

  • Reading:

 The reading section consists of 5 passages, and 52 questions. The passages are arranged in order of Literature, Social Science, Science, History, and Science. Each passage has an average of 80 words. Each passage or pair passage comes with 10 – 11 multiple-choice questions. Some of the passages have tables and charts. The time duration for the test is 65mins. The total scale for this section of the test is 400.

  • Writing and Language Test:

The writing and Language test of the SAT is made up of argumentative passages, and non-fiction passages, with 44 multiple-choice questions. Like the reading section, some of the passages come with tables, and chart. The writing and language test requires the test takers to improve upon the texts underlined in the passages. The test evaluates your skills in improving sentence clarity, word usage, punctuation, sentence placements and structure, and text organization. The whole writing and language test is to be done in 35 minutes. This section of the test is measured out of a total scale of 400.

  • Mathematics:

The topics from which the math questions are set are Heart of Algebra, Passport to Advanced Math, Data Analysis and Problem Solving, and Additional Topics (Geometry, Triangles, Circles, Volumes, Complex numbers, etc). The SAT math consists of two sections:  the calculator section, and the no calculator section.

The No Calculator section is made of 20 questions, 15 of which have multiple choice answers, and 5 grid-in questions. The time duration for the No Calculator section is 25 minutes.

The calculator section consists of 38 questions, 30 of which have multiple-choice questions, and 8 of which have grid-in questions. The time duration for this section is 55 minutes. The math section, both the calculator and no calculator, is added and measured out of a scale of 800.

How to register for SAT in Ghana

  2. Select register SAT exam on the site.
  3. Fill in all your personal information.
  4. Decide whether you would answer all the additional questions that are optional but necessary to isolate you in the search for students who deserve scholarships.
  5. Does your dream university take Essay? Select or ignore the SAT with Essay depending on the requirements of your dream school.
  6. Take and upload a picture of yourself as required by College Board.
  7. Print your admission your admission ticket with which you would enter the exam hall.

How to pass SAT exam in Ghana

Passing SAT is a matter highly affected the university you decide to attend. Thus, depending on the university’s score range, you set your score target. However, students who aspire to study in internationally recognized institutions in the USA would require a high score to achieve this dream.

You would need to score at least 1400, with a GPA of at least 3.8/4 to get into such institutions. Learning how to pass the SAT is therefore necessary for such students that want to aspire in highly ranked universities. Below are tips on how to pass the SAT exam Ghana:

  1. You must have a target score:

Before you can achieve anything in life, you need to have a target, or a goal. What score is required to get you into your dream-college or university? What is your overall target score? Basically, you first need to set a target for yourself and measure your improvements by that target.

  • Proper Tuition:

You would need to receive proper tuition if you want to pass the SAT. Most consults make the mistake of employing teachers from Senior High Schools, and Universities to handle the SAT tuition.

Therefore, every section in the SAT exam, including the math sections, requires vivid understanding of the passages, questions, and answer choices. It demands that you read into details, taking into consideration every single word.  

As you read lots of adult materials, you would come across many new words from which you can strengthen your vocabulary and understanding of texts, thereby helping you to easily comprehend the SAT text materials. Ones you get to understand the questions and answer choices in the SAT, you can easily score high, probably going beyond your target score.

  • Practice. Practice. Practice:

SAT, like any other skill, requires lots of practice to get good. The more you practice and review the test, the more you get to understand how the test is been structured. There are 10 practice tests released by the college-board for practice. Practice with them and see how fast your score will accelerate.

You should know, in terms of practice, there is no material better than the materials sourced from the test manufacturers themselves, i.e the College Board.
